The Swing Bed Program at GMHS is designed for patients who no longer need acute hospital care, but still require additional rehabilitation before returning home. Whether you’re recovering from surgery, illness, or injury, our team is here to support your recovery every step of the way.
What is Swing Bed Care?
Swing Bed is a short-term rehabilitation program that provides continued medical care and therapy in a hospital setting. Patients benefit from 24-hour skilled nursing care, daily therapy, and access to our full medical team—all in a comfortable environment close to family and friends.
Typical Length of Stay: 1 to 3 weeks
Who Qualifies?
To qualify for Swing Bed, patients must:
- Have had a 3-day acute care hospital stay within the last 30 days
- Require continued rehabilitation or medical monitoring
- Meet Medicare or insurance-specific criteria
- No age restrictions apply. The program is open to qualifying patients of all ages.
Common reasons for Swing Bed care include:
- Recovery after major surgery (e.g., joint replacement, abdominal or vascular procedures)
- Rehabilitation after a stroke
- IV medication therapy
- Strength training following long hospitalizations
- Post-COVID-19 rehabilitation
- Daily physical and/or occupational therapy
